Playa Estero or La Punta

Match the surf area to your ability before choosing a board or lesson. Panama Tourism describes Playa Estero as having smaller waves and a sandy bottom, while Punta Santa Catalina and Punta Brava are associated with experienced surfers. This is destination context, not a safety forecast for today.

A beginner-friendly reputation does not make every part of Estero suitable every day. If conditions exceed your ability, change the session instead of following other surfers into the water.

Surf lessons and published options

These are published services reviewed online on October 2, 2026. They are not a ranking, firsthand review or confirmation of available instructors.

Waluaa’s old lesson URL now redirects to its new page. The formats above replace our earlier Fun Surf description. Business advertising establishes what is offered on a website; it does not verify instructor credentials or session quality independently.

Send each provider the same brief: dates, number of people, ages where relevant, swimming comfort and previous surf experience. Ask for students per instructor, time in the water, board selection, transport and what happens if the sea is unsuitable.

Los Arrieros Surf School

Los Arrieros Surf School appears as a Santa Catalina surf-school organizer on BookSurfCamps. The linked program pages describe lessons and multi-day camps. Our July 22 directory research placed the school near Calle Estero; that map location needs reconfirmation with the business.

On October 2, 2026, the organizer profile displayed no current availability on that platform. This only describes that booking channel; it does not establish that the school has closed or cannot take direct inquiries.

Before choosing a program, establish the current meeting point, instructor language, lesson duration, included equipment and cancellation terms. A camp combines different services, so distinguish accommodation nights from coached sessions and any Coiba excursion. Do not use an old camp schedule as a live timetable.

Find Los Arrieros alongside other researched schools in the Santa Catalina directory. Del Mar, Radical Sloth and Casey Surf Training also appeared in our July directory research; their operating status and offers have not been newly confirmed here.

Board rental and surf camps

For rental, request the board type, length and condition, leash, pickup location, return time, deposit and damage terms. Tell the provider your level and size; the cheapest available board may not be appropriate for a first session.

For a camp, compare the entire package: lodging location, number of nights, lesson count, meals, transport, independent board use and weather changes. A three-day coaching program and a three-night accommodation package are not interchangeable. Keep a written record of what your payment covers.

When to surf

Swell, wind, tide and ability matter more than a broad dry/green-season label. Ask an instructor about the period around your dates and arrange the precise session time near arrival. Waluaa explicitly schedules lessons around tides and conditions.

The best-time guide helps coordinate weather, Coiba and travel. It cannot promise the same surf every day or define a universally best month for all levels.

Where to stay for surf

Check the route from your room to the beach or school, including carrying a board. Ask about board storage, a place to dry gear and transport if the accommodation is outside the walkable area.

Use where to stay to compare areas and published hotel facilities for named options. Convenient access to a Coiba operator does not necessarily mean convenient access to repeated Estero lessons.

Surf and Coiba itinerary

For a first visit, our planning recommendation is three or four nights: arrive and confirm activities, use one full day for Coiba, then keep a separate surf day and an optional flexible day. A compact itinerary is a starting point, with lesson times adapted to conditions.

Pack a rashguard, sun protection, water and any personal gear you depend on. Respect other surfers, wildlife and your limits. For travel with boards, confirm luggage rules for every leg from Panama City.
